Visit Medina County

Andrew Sonnet began Sonnets in early 1993 as a sidewalk coffee cart in front of Freedlander’s Department Store in downtown Wooster, Ohio. As time went by the coffee cart became a Wooster icon and favorite stop along the way before later becoming a permanent fixture inside of the department store. In 1995, Sonnets was bought by picture framers, Todd & Kathie Power of Wadsworth, Ohio. Once into the coffee business, they decided to open a second Sonnets in the front corner of the current location inside of what was then Accent Gallery. In late 1996, the original Wooster location was forced to close due to changes in the department store and all focus was directed to the Wadsworth location. By 1999, Accent Gallery was gone and Sonnets occupied the entire building at 117 College Street.

Sonnets continued to grow and offer more and more items. In 1997, bagel sandwiches were introduced to the menu and in 2000 a kitchen was added to meet the demand. In 2003, the kitchen was expanded, the menu had grown dramatically, and live music was becoming a weekend staple. The stage was completed in 2006 solidifying Sonnets reputation as a favorite venue for local and national musicians to shine.

Opening the front door of Sonnets Espresso Bar and Restaurant may be the best decision you’ll make on your trip to Medina County (or even the best decision you’ll make today if you’re a resident!) because nowhere in Medina will you find out more about Ohio’s abundant creative culture.

Nearly every night of the week offers something to see or do at Sonnets. Stop in on a Monday for Poet’s Night and share your original songwriting skills, recite some poetry or just sit back and support locals in their writing endeavors. Wednesday offers “Open Mic” night at the espresso bar, where you can try your hand playing a few tunes or just enjoy the variant styles. Thursday nights you can dust off that old instrument you haven’t played in a while (or ever) and pick up a few tips from friends as collaborative efforts are made at “Open Jam” night. Friday and Saturday always offer live music ranging from rock, jazz, folk and blues.

Originally noted for its quality coffee and excellence in brewing, Sonnets serves up a whole menu of coffee drinks. Think your double-tall-skinny-no-whip-extra-foam latte couldn’t get any better? Try a Sonnets signature latte or create your own with over a million flavor combinations to choose from.

Don’t drink coffee? Then you should probably try one of the 60 local craft beers the restaurant offers, micro-brewed from all corners of the Buckeye state. And stay until you get hungry or head here first if you’re already famished because Sonnets offers an eclectic menu of hand crafted specialty sandwiches and salads. While all meats, cheeses and greens are of the highest quality, you’re going to want to try the homemade salad dressings. The White French dressing will change the way you look at salad greens.

Worried about the greens in your pocket? Topping out at just under eleven dollars for a local beer, dinner and a heaping serving of culture (as opposed to the average $75 Americans spend on a night out for two), Sonnets Espresso Bar and Restaurant will keep your wallet full, so you can do it all again tomorrow night!
