To highlight Medina's 15th Annual "Walk with Spirits of the Past", writers from the Medina County Historical Society have researched and written six brand new scripts based on early Medina pioneers and historically important later residents of the area. On the weekend of Friday and Saturday, September 10, 11, and Sunday, September 12, 2010, these stories will be acted out in locations around Medina Public Square between 7 and 9pm on Friday and Saturday, and between 2 and 4pm on Sunday. Small groups, led by costumed guides, leave the County Administration Building parking lot every ten minutes and follow a path to six locations close to, and around, Public Square.

The annual event is cooperatively staged by the Medina County Historical Society, the Medina County Show Biz Company and the Medina County Arts Council. Authors of the new scripts include Joann King, Roger Smalley and Judy Totts.

One new story will feature three local women who were nurses in World War II.  Their roles will be played by actresses Dawn Ondrick, Caralyn Doerge and Jenna Kramer. In other scenes Ken Nanes will play Harold Thoburn, and Myrna Dooley will play the active local woman, Freda Snyder. A story about 1880 Medina burials and undertakers will be performed by Michael James, Kathy Frank and Sandy Kaskey. Well-known businessman and shoe store owner Andrew Greisinger will be played by Ron Svoboda.

The sixth story, a look at younger pioneers called "Boys Will Be Boys," has been double cast, with two groups of young people, each doing half of each performance day. The students are: Mike Cranston, Marcia Aguiar, Tommy Evena, Aaron Levigne, Brett Aguiar and Emiliana Diaz-capt. Donna Bica, Show Biz Vice President, is directing the actors.

Marlene Jividen, Historical Society and Arts Council member, is in charge of the guides and ticket sales. The County Administration Building is at 144 North Broadway Street in Medina. Tickets will be on sale at the beginning point of the "Walk" in the parking area of the Administration Building on the day of each event. Day of event prices are $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for all children under 12. Have you ever wondered what a 45 ton OX or a 60ft Flexible Flyer looks like? How about a Breezer from Brazil or a Half-Witt from Canada? And finally what's the story about Leapin' Lena? All the answers about these historic railcars can be found waiting for you at Northern Ohio Railway Museum. Starting Saturdays, May 22 to October 30, 10am to 4pm, guided walking tours will be conducted. Admission is free, donations accepted.

The Museum is located at 5515 Buffham Road in Seville, Medina County, Ohio near Chippewa Lake. From the I-71/I-76/224 interchange, take 224 west 4/10 of a mile to County Road 19 (Lake Road). Turn right (north) on Lake and go 6/10 of a mile to Buffham Road. Turn right (east) on Buffham and go 1 mile. The museum will then be on your left.

On the tour, visitors will see a diversified collection of streetcars, interurbans, and rapid transit equipment from this region. The oldest trolley car in the collection dates back to 1895. It was purchased by an area trolley tycoon that later became a famous Cleveland mayor. See the equipment that built and maintained the streetcar system. Learn the story of how photographers and dancers permitted these utilitarian cars to serve their employer in ways their designers never imagined. The story of trolly freight is told through the rare artifacts. Discover how the interurban became the farmer's friend. See the last wooden interurban to leave Cleveland as well as the only operable piece of equipment from the Cleveland Union Terminal Railroad. Learn how a sleepy streetcar line built to promote real estate, morphed into a pioneer rapid transit line that still operates today. Finally see a 1970 rapid car that served the first Airport Rapid Transit Line in the western hemisphere. Many other fascinating stories abound at the museum and can be found on the tour.

New this year are several cars and items from the former Trolleyville U.S.A. collection. See the OX, the only restored car from the interurgam that once served Cleveland, Akron and Canton. This car in later years, when in service on the Shaker Rapid, brought Santa to Shaker Square for the holiday lighting ceremony. See one of the best preserved Cleveland streetcars in existence, #1225. Many other new items are on the tour.

A unique feature of the tour is a visit to the restoration shop. See how these grand treasures of our past are painstakingly disassembled and restored to like-new condition by skilled craftsmen and women. At present several projects are underway in varying stages of completion. Conditions permitting, you will have the opportunity to see the restoration underway and have the work being done explained.

The museum is supported by donations from its members and the general public. Donations for the continued development of the museum are needed and can be sent to: Northern Ohio Railway Museum, P.O. Box 458, Chippewa Lake, Ohio 44215-0458. The museum is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit educational corporation. All donations are tax-exempt.

The Northern Ohio Railway Museum's mission is to collect, preserve, restore, display and operate streetcars and other electric railway equipment for the education and enjoyment of the public.
