The Medina Community Band, under the baton of Marcus Neiman, will present their annual spring concert on Sunday, May 5th, at 2p, Medina High School Middle Stage Auditorium, 777 East Union Street (Medina 44256). Admission and parking to the concert are complimentary.
Featured instrumental soloist with Medina Community Band will be Sadie Nayman, performing Cécile Chaminade’s Concertino, Op. 107 for flute. Featured ensemble with Medina Community Band will be a brass sextet performing Sextet fromLucia di Lammermoor. Community Band flutist Amy Muhl will be joined by clarinetist May Ann Grof-Neiman performing Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns’ Tarantella, Op 6 for flute, clarinet, and concert band.
Selections will include English Folksong Suite (Vaughan Williams); Italian Polka (Rachmaninoff); Marche Hongroise – Rákóczi (from Damnation of Faust) (Berlioz); Dances from ‘West Side Story’ (Bernstein); and, Fly Me to the Moon(Howard). Also featured will be Esprit De Corps March (Sousa); Baby Boo March (Jewell); The Elephant March (Hume); and, After the Cake Walk (Dett)
The Medina Community Band has been recognized by the John Philip Sousa Foundation for its historic importance and impact on the present-day community band effort with the Sudler Silver Scroll Historic Community Band Award for 2015. The basis for the award is in the existence of a community band for more than 100 years, as well as having played a significant and leading role in the cultural and musical environment in their community.
